married 6 years. live with my wife in Taiwan, she's taiwanese, I'm american. One son, 4. we live in a small town, run an English school. Been here 8 years. I can't do it anymore...we work at night, our son at preschool in the day...we never see him...raisedby grandma..hiring decent English teachers hard in this tiny town...I feel trapped and missing my son's childhood. I miss my family.
All my wife does is work and take care of other kids. Her health is deteriorating, yet she does nothing about it even when begged. see a doctor, eat better, exercise, stop smoking. nothing gets through. She refuses to communicate. literally. It's a total shutdown.
Sex once a month. she sleeps till 2pm(nite job she says)
I gave a lot when I came here to her world and her dysfunctional family(whom she's insisted we live with the whole time). I see no future where it will be returned. I CANT live here forever. culture is too alien. she says one day she can move, but I don't believe it.

From what you say about your situation, especially the part about the total communication breakdown, a divorce is inevitable. Life is too short, why drag it out?

Check the AIT website. They have some information about getting divorced in Taiwan. It's very easy and straightforward as long as your wife is also willing to get a divorce.


The children are the father's according to Taiwan law.

tough situation. I say go with your gut. Do you see a better future for yourself back in the US? Will she leave with you? Would you really take your son away from his mother? Despite the hard life? All hard questions to answer.
Do you have support in the USA from your family in order to get your life on a positive track?
I can't answer your question, except with all these questions for you to be able to do what's best for yourself and your son.

i would take MY son and leave- you had better be sneaky about it or you might lose your son. can you take him to states to visit or something? maybe talk to an american lawyer- what happens if you take off with your son, can they really do anything about it once your back in the states- plan ahead get informed- don't trust anyone- look out for yourself and your son- good luck
