I would just keep trying and practicing the different sounds out loud until you get it right. It can be frustrating though- but will be easy once you get the hang of it.

Re: the best way of improving listening ability of english pronounciation?
Practice.
When you watch tv, watch English spoken programmes, this really helps. Try to not only listen to American English but British English as well. When you're used to only listening to American English then there's a big chance you'll still find British English hard to understand. Most tv shows in English are American but there are plenty of great shows from the BBC too (the Catherine Tate Show for example, which is one of my favourites). And it might sound boring, but watching the news on CNN or on the BBC is good practice as well. If the television channels on your country don't offer many programmes in English then you can also find many things on websites such as youtube.
But really, practicing is the only and best way to improve your listening ability.
I am a student of English Language and Culture and all of my classes are given in English and this also really helped me improve my listening skills.

Practice, combined with watching English tv/movies & listening to English music.
