which combination of majors should i choose?
Currently I am going to a community college, and soon I will be transferring. I have a dilemma about what two majors I should pursue. I definately want to study french, to become a teacher, but I also want to double major, that way I can have a bigger chance to get hired. My question is which two majors do you think are more beneficial right now- french and spanish or french and esl? I live in CA, if that matters at all.
thank you

French would be fun, but then again the best to go with is Spanish.

Well, i would do French and Spanish and then go on and get a Master's in ESL...
If you really want to teach, a master's will help you out more than a Bachelor's in ESL
If you choose this route, look into some ESL master's programs and see what sorts of requirements they have.
Perhaps you can double major and get a minor in ESL for your BA?

I would double major in French and Spanish if it were me, just because ESL is more limiting in its application. You will be able to do a lot more with a Spanish major as a graduate whether or not you decide to teach. For example, as an ESL major you probably won't be first choice to teach a Spanish class to English speaking students, where as a Spanish major you will be flexible enough to teach both. Secondly, if you ever decide to do something with your second major other than teach, Spanish will allow you to do much more than ESL will.

You can't go wrong with Spanish - French is not in as much demand in the public schools but Spanish is needed almost everywhere! Have you thought about special education?

I think you should consider French and Fine Arts as your double major. They complement each other and many private and/or public schools usually have both programs.
Je pense que vous devriez considérer des arts français et fins en tant que votre double commandant. Ils se complètent et beaucoup d'écoles privées et/ou d'Etat ont habituellement les deux programmes.

Spanish is a growing trend right now but almost everyone knows basic spanish if not advanced. Having a major in ESL will be more unique and will normally come off as a bigger accomplishment since Spanish is so popular among people now.
Either would be beneficial now, just depends on what YOU would rather do.
Good luck =)
